Choose your desired lake, size, and any customization you wish to be added to your piece. Once your order is placed, we get to work preparing your custom design proof. This typically takes about 2-3 Business days depending on volume of orders being received.

Design and Proof Approval

After your initial design is complete, we will email you a proof to review. Your job is to verify all spelling, points of interest, and artwork is to your liking. We DO NOT produce any maps until you are happy with your design! Once you are satisfied with your design, simply reply “I APPROVE THIS DESIGN FOR PRODUCTION AS IS”.

Material Prep, Carving, and Engraving

Once we have an approved design, it is time for us to go to work creating your truly one-of-a-kind piece. We use some of the best materials and equipment we can get our hands on to create our maps! Our lakes are carved using our industrial CNC machine which gives us the ability to have the precision needed to showcase the beauty of your lake’s shoreline accurately.

All of our lakes are carved into 1/2” plywood with a maple background giving each map a unique natural grain and color that cannot be duplicated. After carving your lake it is on to the sanding table to a quick initial sand to smooth the surface from and fuzzies left from carving, scuffs from handling, or any other stray marks. Once we are satisfied with the condition of the map “Blank” it is into the laser engraver to add Town and road names, Points of Interest, Artwork, and anything other details you have requested on your design. After laser engraving is complete, its back to the sanding table for another quick sanding to remove any “overburn” from the engraving process. Now the map is ready for its first of 3 coats of finish!

Epoxy pouring, Framing, and Finishing

After the first “Sealer” coat has dried, it is time to add some color! We use a metallic blue powder in epoxy that gives it beautiful pop of color against the maple background. Once then epoxy been poured, it is allowed to dry for a full 48 hours to ensure it has completely cured and we will have no issues in the next steps. After pouring it is back to, you guessed it, the sanding table! This time we are ensuring that no epoxy has gone astray and is outside of the area it is supposed to be. This sanding also helps to level out the sealer coat to let us have a glass smooth finish. Now it is time from to add our frame we use only the best hand-picked material for our frames, which are run through a molding head to give them the profile we use on our maps. Each frame is grooved to accept our map blanks and encase them all the way around. This gives your map not only a cleaner finished look, but also strength to last for years to come, no matter how many times it is moved! After Framing, it is time for ANOTHER sanding to make sure the frames are all smooth and ready for finish. Our maps are all finished by spraying 2 coats of gloss clear coat on them, this helps protect and makes your maps easier to clean!

Final Inspection and packaging

Through all these steps we have strict quality standards, and we inspect each map throughout the process, but before boxing, we preform one final inspection to make sure your map is absolutely perfect! After this, it is time for packaging. We wrap each map very thoroughly to make sure it protected during shipping, because we all know what packages look like when they show up to our homes! Once your map is completely packaged, a shipping label is printed, stuck on the back and your map is out our door on its way to its new home! Upon printing a shipping label, you are notified of its intended ship date and given a tracking number.

After Delivery

Even after your map is delivered and you have it proudly displayed on your wall, we are still here! We LOVE what we do and are incredibly grateful for your business, so we will be here for you long after the sale!
